We present the joint charity project of the L'OCCITANE Foundation and the Foundation for Research and Retinal Disease
We provide free screening for diabetic retinopathy to all people with diabetes aged 11 and over. The program will

What is the purpose of the Project? The ever-increasing number of patients with diabetes mellitus (according to the forecasts of the World Health Organization, their number will double in the next 20 years) leads to an increase in the prevalence of its late complications, in particular diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic retinopathy is a disease that affects small blood vessels of the retina.
The retina is the inner envelope of the eye that helps to transform everything that we see into an impulse that passes along the visual path to the brain, where the final data processing is already taking place and the visual image is created. A healthy retina is necessary for good vision.

Diabetic retinopathy can lead to blockage of blood vessels in the retina, bleeding, and severe visual impairment.
Anyone with type 1 or type 2 diabetes is at risk of developing diabetic retinopathy.
Since diabetic retinopathy does not show any symptoms in its early stages, it can become quite advanced before a person living with diabetes begins to notice it. Regular eye examinations can help detect and treat diabetic retinopathy at an early stage, which should prevent it from progressing to a stage where it is more difficult to treat.

Then the doctor will examine the eye with a slit lamp, after which he will drip special drops into the eyes that dilate the pupils.
These eye drops may cause a short-term burning sensation. Your vision will be blurry after drops, it will be difficult to focus on objects that are close. This can last from 2 to 6 hours, so we recommend that you do not drive yourself on the day of the screening and bring sunglasses with you, which you will need after the screening.
15-20 minutes after instillation of the drops, a photo of the retina of each eye will be taken. It is a painless procedure, and flashes of light during photographs are usually well tolerated by patients. In addition to explanation, you will be given a brochure explaining in detail the importance of screening for diabetic retinopathy.

In case of difficulties with this examination as part of the Сompulsary Health Insurance, the Foundation for Research and Treatment of Retinal Diseases will provide all studies at its own expense. Based on the results of the study, treatment for diabetic retinopathy will be prescribed.
You will receive an email or a message with the results of the screening within two weeks.
If there is no sign of diabetic retinopathy, you will be recommended to re-test in a year.
